How to Use LIDAR

Here is how to model using LIDAR in HelioScope:

Setting up LIDAR in the design:

  1. After completing your initial site design, turn on LIDAR by clicking the "Layers" button in the top right-hand corner, then clicking LIDAR
     
    or by clicking on the LIDAR button under the Advanced setting on the Design Menu

  2. Click the Turn on LIDAR button next to LIDAR 

  3. Click between LIDAR Styles to toggle between Mesh, Imagery, or Point Cloud

     

  4. Adjust the LIDAR data by using the x, y, and z Data Offset fields.

  5. View or switch the source of LIDAR data in the LIDAR settings menu. The two LIDAR sources are Google Sunroof and Aurora LIDAR.

  6. Next, go to the Mechanical tab and right-click on your field segment to align your field segment to LIDAR:

    Note: the options "Fit to LIDAR (Tilt)" and Fit to LIDAR (Height and Tilt)" are only available for field segment types with a tilt (e.g. Flush Mount)

  7. Fit to LIDAR can also be used to set the height of obstructions. After drawing the Keepout shape, right-click and select Fit to LIDAR to match the Keepout height to the LIDAR imagery.

LIDAR will cover all design elements up to a maximum of 400m x 400m (160,000m²) or approximately 1300ft x 1300ft (1,690,000ft²). To see where LIDAR can be used, see HelioScope’s LIDAR availability map. For issues while using LIDAR, check out the Troubleshooting LIDAR article.
